Throughout our marriage, Patti and I made it a priority to travel, explore, and soak up as many experiences as we could. But like so many couples juggling careers and responsibilities, work often took the lead. We were always “going to get to it” someday.
As I started approaching that traditional retirement age, a question started tugging at me: What now? And then it hit me—this next phase of life might last 20, 30, even 35 years. That’s a whole lifetime in itself. The idea of spending it just “taking it easy” sounded…well, kind of boring. I didn’t want to retire from life—I wanted to reignite it.
This next chapter? It’s the good part. The part where we finally get to choose what we want to do, who we want to be, and what kind of memories we want to make. No deadlines (except maybe for dinner reservations). No pressure to climb any more ladders—unless it’s to the treehouse with the grandkids.
Patti and I have always lived by the motto: “How can we?” instead of “That’s not possible.” It’s gotten us into a few interesting situations (ask us about that time we took a dingy to Lana'i in pitch darkness), but it’s also brought us a life that’s full, intentional, and uniquely ours.
We created Retire and Reignite because we know we’re not the only ones who want more out of this next phase. We’re building a community of curious, courageous, slightly rebellious retirees (or pre-retirees) who aren’t done growing, dreaming, or having a good laugh.
So if you’ve ever looked at your future and thought, “There’s gotta be more than bingo and bird watching,”—you’re our kind of people.
Come join us. The best chapter’s just getting started.
